Three subtle signs of a healthy culture
Culture rarely announces itself. These are three subtle signs of ours that I love.
At our Chick-fil-A, I've seen three subtle signs of our culture that I love:
- Current team members invite their friends and family to come work with us.
- Sometimes a team member leaves to pursue other opportunities, perhaps with more pay, but then asks to come back after a couple of months. In this situation, I'll hear something like, "Mr. Jon, it's just not the same over there!"
- Seeing and hearing stories of our team getting together outside of work for social events.
Side note: when your culture is strong and healthy, it becomes much easier to spot new hires who don't align.
Anyone else notice subtle signs of a great culture?
The takeaway for leaders
The best evidence of culture is what people choose to do when no one requires it. Watch for referrals, returns, and relationships outside of work.
This idea is at the heart of the Frontline AI Leadership keynote and the book Frontline AI Leadership.
